It Time to Make A Change for The Better

Weight Loss & Wellness at Pathway Healthcare

Your body mass index (BMI) is an estimate of your body fat that is based on your height and weight. Doctors use BMI, along with other health indicators, to assess an adult’s current health status and potential health risks. You can determine your BMI with the calculator below. (BMI should not be used to assess a child’s weight because the appropriate weight for a child varies greatly by age).

Typically, people with higher BMIs have a greater likelihood of developing conditions such as heart disease, high blood pressure, sleep apnea, and type 2 diabetes. But many factors — including your family history, eating habits and activity level — also influence your overall health.

Can you tell me how your program works?
Our program is based on counting calories. When you come in, we’ll have you register and fill out a Health History Questionnaire. You will then be taken back to our exam room by our friendly staff that will provide you with an orientation of our program, including education about counting calories and reading nutrition labels. Our Nurse Practitioner, (“NP”), or Physician Assistant (“PA”), will review your medical history and perform a brief exam on you.

I think I have a slow metabolism. How much weight can I lose?
Average weight loss in a month is typically 8-10 pounds. There are factors that may cause you to either lose more or less weight. Some of these factors could include: your adherence to the program; frequency /portions of food consumed, exercise, water intake, certain medications that you may be taking, as well as varias Health Issues, etc.
If I'm not hungry while on the program do I still need to eat?
Often times, when taking the appetite suppressant, the sensation of wanting to eat decreases. Although the temptation to skip meals/snacks is there, it is very important that you eat. When you don’t eat regularly, your metabolism will slow down thus causing your body to store fats. The net result will be a decrease in your chances of losing weight.
I'm running low on the appetite suppressants; can I swing by and pick some up?
Because it is a controlled medication, it is necessary to have a follow-up visit before we can dispense a refill of the medication.
